  | | Binomial Cube The Binomial Cube is an excellent way of introducing algebra to pre-school and primary / secondary school children as this cube works on various levels.
These cubes have a robust stained colour finish.
The binomial cube is the concrete representation of (a+b)³ and is an indirect preparation for algebra.
The constituent parts of the cube represent the factors of the equation : a³+ b³ + a²b + a²b + a²b + ab² + ab² + ab² but the young child is not exposed to this complicated algebra, s/he is occupied in rebuilding the cube by recognising colour and shape.
Later algebra work can revisit the cube as it as excellent starting point for understanding what can be a baffling subject if taught wholly in the abstract. Hence its use for older children and helping them understand mathematics in a more physical sense.
The binomial cube is contained in a wooden box with two hinged sides and a lid.
ELG: Explore colour, texture, shape, form and space in two and three dimensions. Use language such as 'circle' or 'bigger' to describe the shape and size of solids and flat shapes. Talk about, recognise and recreate simple patterns.
