Activity: "Time for Action" a Montessori activity that incorporates a sand timer can focus on developing a child's sense of time and concentration.

Materials needed:

  1. Sand timer (choose an appropriate duration for your child's age, such as a 30-seconds timer for younger children or a longer one for older children)
  2. Action cards or pictures representing various movements

Instructions:

  1. Introduce the sand timer to the child, explaining that it measures time. Show them how to turn it over and let the sand flow.
  2. Set up the action cards and explain that each card represents a different action or chore to be completed.
  3. Explain to the child that they will choose an action card, flip the sand timer, and have until the sand runs out to either strike the pose, hold the pose, create a movement inspired by the picture or move between 2 poses.
  4. Demonstrate by choosing an action card, turning over the sand timer, and completing the action or pose before the time is up.
  5. Invite the child to select a task card and flip the sand timer. Encourage them to focus on the activity and complete it before the sand runs out.
  6. Repeat the process, allowing the child to choose different task cards and challenging them to finish the activity within the time frame.

This activity helps develop the child's time management skills, concentration, and sense of responsibility. It also provides a structured way to introduce the concept of time and the importance of completing tasks within a given period. Remember to adjust the duration of the sand timer and complexity of the tasks according to your child's age and abilities.

This is an educational product and is only to be used under the supervision of professional trained adults in a school environment.
