A wooden tray containing:

a wooden unit bead stand with nine indentations (and one on the reverse) and nine beads

a wooden box containing 9 tens beads bars (individual beads threaded on copper wire)

a wooden box containing 9 hundreds squares of beads (individual beads threaded on copper wire)

a wooden box containing a cube of 1000 beads (individual beads threaded on copper wire).

Initially just one of each of the units, tens, hundreds and thousands are presented to the child in a Three Period Lesson. Once the child is familiar with their relative values the child learns to count using the beads. The material shows how the decimal system changes hierarchy at 9, so children learn that after 9 units the next number is 1 ten which is made up of ten units etc.
