Connected Beads for Introducing The Decimal System
Perles pour l'introduction au systeme decimal
Deuxième plateau du système décimal perles conn. nylon
A beech tray containing:
a wooden unit bead stand with nine indentations and nine beads
a wooden box containing 9 tens beads bars (connected beads)
a wooden box containing 9 hundreds squares of beads (connected beads)
a wooden box containing a cube of 1000 beads (connected beads).
Initially just one of each of the units, tens, hundreds and thousands are presented to the child in a Three Period Lesson. Once the child is familiar with their relative values the child learns to count using the beads. The material shows how the decimal system changes hierarchy at 9, so children learn that after 9 units the next number is 1 ten which is made up of ten units etc.
These connected plastic beads are a good value alternative. They are suitable for light use.
